Padel Etiquette: The Unwritten Rules of the Court

How to be the partner everyone wants to play with.
Padel Etiquette: The Unwritten Rules of the Court
← All posts

Every sport has rules that are never written down. Padel is a friendly, social game, and a little etiquette goes a long way. Here is how to fit right in.

Before the game

  • Be on time. Courts are booked by the hour. Arrive a few minutes early so you get a full warm-up.
  • Warm up together. A few minutes of gentle rallies at the net and from the back helps everyone.

During the game

  • Communicate. Call "mine", "yours" or "out". Silence is how both players leave the ball.
  • Call your own side fairly. If a ball hits the fence or bounces twice on your side, say so.
  • Wait for points to finish. Do not walk behind a court while a point is in play.
  • Feed balls to the server. Pass them back so the game keeps moving.
  • Mind your swing near the glass. Safety first for you and your partner.

After the game

  • Touch rackets. Padel's handshake. Win or lose.
  • Leave the court on time. The next group is waiting.
  • Grab a drink together. Optional, but very much the padel way.

Above all, enjoy it. Everyone misses shots, especially at the start.
